Keiki Hula Festival celebrates 18th year

Hui Lanakila dancers will take the stage at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

LAHAINA – Lahaina Cannery Mall will host its 18th annual Keiki Hula Festival on Saturday, July 16, and Sunday, July 17.

This free, two-day cultural event will feature halau (dance troupes) from across the island presenting richly choreographed kahiko (ancient) and auana (modern) hula that express the traditional values of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.

The weekend celebration also features Hawaiian artisans and crafters demonstrating lei-making, weaving, wood carving and other traditional skills.

Halau will take the stage every other hour beginning at 11 a.m., with the last performance at 3:30 p.m. each day.

The schedule on Saturday is: Hui Lanakila at 11 a.m., Te Tiare Patitifa at 12:30 p.m., Na Kamalii Nani O Lahaina at 2 p.m., and Te Tiare Patitifa at 3:30 p.m.

The schedule on Sunday includes Hui Lanakila at 11 a.m., Te Tiare Patitifa at 12:30 p.m., Halau Hula Okeola Aliiokekai at 2 p.m., and Halau Hula Malani o Kapehe at 3:30 p.m.

Other events in July include free ukulele lessons at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesdays; Polynesian hula lessons at 5 p.m. on Thursdays; Keiki Hula Shows at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, followed by Maui Toy Works Yu-Gi-Oh Card Sessions from 3 to 5 p.m.; and all-ages comedy and magic with Holden Mowat at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays, followed by a Keiki Hula Show at 1 p.m.
