KULA - Maui residents are invited to celebrate the reopening of the newly restored Enchanting Floral Gardens, a living exhibit of exotic plants and flowers, at an open house event on Sunday, May 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Located at an elevation of 2,500 feet on the slopes of Haleakala, the picturesque eight-acre property is one of Maui's cultural and educational jewels.
Enchanting Floral Gardens is home to more than 1,500 imported tropical and semitropical botanical species, including rare proteas, orchids, hibiscus, jade vines and other varieties that cannot be found anywhere else on the island.
Since it was sold in 2012, Enchanting Floral Gardens has been fully restored.
Horticulturists and sightseers alike could easily spend an entire day exploring the contours and admiring the tropical splendor of this property, which is steeped in historical and cultural significance.
Developed by renowned Japanese botanist and petunia breeder Kazuo Takeda, Enchanting Floral Gardens serves as living proof that almost every kind of plant can thrive in the cool climate of Upcountry Maui.
Since it was sold in 2012, the property has been fully restored by new owners who have worked year-round to preserve its distinctive spirit and beauty.
Enchanting Floral Gardens is much more than a roadside attraction - it is also an advocate for the plant kingdom.
The gardens will soon be available as a "botanical laboratory" for Maui County schools, as well as a venue for artists-in-residence and intimate social gatherings.
Pack a picnic lunch, step outside and discover a plant paradise on Sunday, May 26, at the grand reopening of Enchanting Floral Gardens, a free, fun, family friendly event.
Enchanting Floral Gardens is located at 2505 Kula Highway, across from Mile Marker 10 on Highway 37, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
