Celebrate National Safe Boating Week

May 16, 2013
Lahaina News

KAHULUI - The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Team are launching National Safe Boating Week with an informative and fun event at the Kahului Boat Ramp on Saturday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be free safe boating information and services available, as well as free stuff for keiki.

Trailer your boat down for a free Recreational Vessel Safety Exam by the Coast Guard Auxiliary and get your 2013 sticker.

"Register" your kayak and SUP boards with a free orange sticker with your name and phone numbers to put on your toys, which can help you recover your property if it is lost. The contact information can also help determine whether a Search and Rescue mission is needed or not!

The U.S. Coast Guard Station Maui is expected to have its 25-foot response boat there.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Team will have their special equipment to test your EPIRB (yellow safety beacon) for free. Please bring your EPIRB along with your manual. You can also get help to register your EPIRB.

Stop by to make a future appointment for a free Uninspected Passenger Vessel "Six Pack" Voluntary Safety Check or a Commercial Fishing Vessel Voluntary Safety Check.

Bring your expired flares to light off under the training and supervision of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Keiki will enjoy the auxiliary's "Coastie The Safety Boat" Youth Education, Boating and Water Safety Program.
