LAHAINA - Among the 18 Lahaina Harbor charter sportfishing boats, the 37-foot Merritt Finest Kind took second place for the year. It weighed nine blue marlin (most among the fleet) totaling 3,569.4 pounds (highest blue weight). Their largest marlin were 760.3 (second best for 2012), 533.1 (ninth), 450.6 and 419.4 pounds.
It had four striped marlin (tied for third most) totaling 189.7 pounds (fourth highest striped weight) and five spearfish totaling 166.3 pounds.
The 18 billfish weighed (tied for second most among the fleet) totaled 3925.4 pounds (highest total weighed). It was in a three-way tie for the second most billfish captured. It also weighed a 158.8-pound yellowfin ahi.

The boats were close together for total counts, with the Bertrams battling it out.
The 31-foot Bertram Ikaika Kai weighed itself into third place with several big blue marlin. It weighed four blue marlin totaling 2,276.6 pounds (third highest blue weight) - the largest at 915.0 (tops last year), 536.4 (seventh) and 522.4 (tenth) pounds.
The 915.0 and 536.4 were both by wahine anglers.
It had three striped marlin totaling 119 pounds and six spearfish (tied for second most) totaling 195 pounds (second highest spearfish weight).
The 13 billfish weighed (fifth most) totaled 2,590.6 pounds (third highest total weighed). Size does matter!
The 37-foot Bertram Start Me Up Das It was right behind in the fourth spot with its share of blue marlin. It weighed four blue marlin totaling 1,828.6 pounds (fourth highest blue weight). Their largest marlin weighed 515.6 (11th for the year), 482.0 and 457.5 pounds.
It had one striped marlin weighing 34.9 pounds, along with seven spearfish (most among the fleet) totaling 244.0 pounds (highest total spearfish weight).
The 12 billfish weighed (sixth most) totaled 2,107.5 pounds (forth highest total weighed).
Another 31-foot Bertram, the Exact, finished in fifth place. It weighed four blue marlin totaling 1,361.7 pounds, the largest at 467.6 and 409.8 pounds. It had seven striped marlin (most among the fleet) totaling 354.8 pounds (highest striped weight) and three spearfish totaling 82 pounds.
The 14 billfish weighed (fourth most) totaled 1,798.5 pounds (fifth highest total weighed). It also weighed a 111.4-pound yellowfin ahi.
The 37-foot Bertram Start Me Up La Dat finished in sixth place with seven blue marlin (third most) totaling 1,392.5 pounds (sixth highest blue weight). It had five striped marlin captured (fifth most captured) totaling 217.3 pounds (fifth highest capture weight) and two spearfish captured.
The 14 billfish captured (tied for third most captured) totaled 1,683.3 pounds (seventh highest capture weight). It also weighed a 115.5-pound ahi.
The Reel Hooker and Die Hard each had 18 total billfish in a three-way tie for second most billfish.
The 35-foot Bertram Reel Hooker had six blue marlin (fourth most captured), eight striped marlin (second most captured) totaling 394.3 pounds (highest striped capture weight) and four spearfish. The 18 billfish captured totaled 1,702.0 pounds (sixth highest capture weight). It also weighed the largest yellowfin ahi of 2012 with a new wahine record 222.2-pounder.
The 33-foot Bertram Die Hard had five blue marlin (two way tie for fifth most blue marlin captured), seven striped marlin (tied for third most) and six spearfish. The 18 billfish captured totaled 1,447.0 pounds (ninth highest capture weight). It also was tied with the most ahi over 100 pounds for the year with seven totaling 985.4 pounds (highest total weight). Their largest ahi were 200.0 (second largest) and 158.8 pounds.
