Maui Democrats to honor U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka
MAKENA - The Maui Democratic Party on Wednesday, Aug. 29, will host a special dinner event to honor U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka.
"For more than three decades, Senator Akaka has worked tirelessly for the people of Hawaii. His extensive contributions towards helping veterans and their families, protecting the rights of Native Hawaiians, strengthening education and supporting Social Security have made the people of Hawaii proud," noted Todd Craine, chair of the Maui Democratic Party.
Lahaina CrossFit on Aug. 4 held a contest based on five events: maximum deadlift, tire flip, prowler push, bench press and farmers’ walk. There were 30 competitors and around 100 spectators. “We often run events like this, but this was the most diverse crowd, which included several people from all over the island. It was also a food drive for Feed My Sheep Foundation. Our gym is striving to be a positive influence in this community,” noted owner Anthony Bianucci.
"Senator Akaka's voice in Congress on the stewardship of our environment deeply reflects Hawaii's values of malama 'aina and kuleana - values that are rooted in his own heritage and embraced by the people of Maui."
The event will be held at the Makena Beach and Golf Resort with a luau dinner and show beginning at 6 p.m. The evening will feature a special presentation to Sen. Akaka.
Tickets are $100. E-mail email@example.com for information.
