KIHEI – “Music Feeds the Soul” is again the theme for the Annual Fundraiser Pa’ina for Hale Kau Kau, which will be held on Saturday, March 3, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Wailea Beach Marriott Maui Resort & Spa.

This 13th annual event will feature musical entertainment during dinner by Louise Alborano and Tarvin Makia, who will open for a special performance by Makana, Hawaii’s youngest slack key guitar master.

Hale Kau Kau (“House of Meals”) is a nonprofit program at Saint Theresa Church in Kihei. With compassion and aloha, program volunteers prepare and distribute warm, nutritious meals 365 days per year to the working poor, the needy and the homebound elderly, sick and disabled in South Maui, both onsite and through deliveries.

This pa’ina is a significant source of funds to keep the program operating. Help to make this service possible comes almost entirely from volunteers in the community, who for over 20 continuous years have given generously of their time and talents to help the less fortunate and homebound in the community. “Never miss a day” is their mantra.

In a letter inviting continued support from donors, Rev. Msgr. Terrence A.M. Watanabe, executive director of Hale Kau Kau and pastor of Saint Theresa Church, stated that there is an increasing number of meals being served, with an annual total approaching 60,000. Over Hale Kau Kau’s 20-year-plus history, that’s over one million meals served to those in need in South Maui.

As in the past, the community is invited to participate in a number of ways: through table sponsorships, advertising in the event program, donations of items for the auctions and attendance at the pa’ina.

Hale Kau Kau Director of Development Marie Thomas said that table sponsorships for companies and groups are offered in a range of prices with special recognition and many amenities.

Sponsorship levels are Signature Sponsorship, Heaven’s Kitchen, Executive Chef, Sous Chef, Line Cook and Short Order Cook. The Signature Sponsorship is offered in honor of Marie Osaki, past kitchen manager for Hale Kau Kau for 16 years.

The cost for individuals is still only $95. Tickets may be purchased Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hale Kau Kau Office, 25 West Lipoa St. (at Saint Theresa Church), and on Saturdays and Sundays after church services.
