An update on Lahaina News
The outpouring of support for Lahaina and West Maui has been monumental and inspiring during the past two weeks, and the world is seeing what an incredible community we have here.
We pray that all Maui families affected by the devastating wildfires are linked up with support services and getting the help they need.
If you are able, please make donations to help our Maui neighbors during this time of crisis. One effective option is the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund via https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/maui-strong. HCF is well-connected on the island and can get resources delivered to people fast.
The staff at Lahaina News appreciates the many calls and e-mails we received from old friends and complete strangers from around the country.
Our writers are among the Lahaina families who lost their homes on Aug. 8, and we are deeply saddened for the loss of life and destruction to the area that we love.
We know the area is LAHAINA STRONG, and that the community will band together to help people impacted by the fires as the future of the area takes shape.
Lahaina News remains committed to covering the West Maui community and the road ahead.
For the time being, we are going to focus on our website at www.lahainanews.com. This is the most effective way we can report timely information on relief and restoration efforts.
Lahaina News will also run our original features on the people, teams and events of the West Side, as we have for over 42 years.
Mahalo to everyone who has contacted us to voice support for Lahaina News. The goal is to return to print as soon as we can.
