Phyllis Rosenthal will be remembered for her kindness

By Staff | Feb 18, 2022

A family celebration of life for Phyllis Leilani Basques Rosenthal will be held on Feb. 19, 2022, in Vancouver, Washington.

She will be remembered fondly for the warmth and kindness manifested throughout her life here in Lahaina. Family, friends and work associates will all hold a special memory in their hearts for Phyllis Leilani Basques Rosenthal, who passed away on Jan. 27, 2022, in Vancouver, Washington.

“Aunty Aloha,” as she was lovingly called, left this Earth peacefully to join Our Heavenly Father in eternal life, with her husband of 41 years, Don Rosenthal, and family members by her side. Phyllis Rosenthal was 67.

Born in the heart of Lahaina at the Pioneer Mill Hospital and raised in the iconic Mill Camp neighborhood adjacent to the smokestack and mill yard, she is remembered most for a special kind of aloha, always with a beautiful smile on her face and delicate flower in her hair.

She rarely missed a game of her children and grandchildren in their sports activities and actively supported and helped with the local hula halau of Tommy and Noe Akima. Added husband Don, himself a lifelong proponent of youth sports here on the West Side, “She was my backbone in whatever adventure I got myself into.”

Phyllis Rosenthal is survived by her husband, Don Rosenthal; sister Verna Biga; brother Daniel (Joanne) Basques; children Ivan (Emilyn) Basques, Lacy (Robert) Kea, Tracy Basques, Phillip Rosenthal, Hana Rosenthal, and Myron (Dez) Rosenthal; ten grandchildren, Arnel, Stasha, Royce-Malu, Loke, Leilani, Ipo, Sammy, Hanalei, Dreyson and Evan; two hanai grandchildren, Moku and Manalani; and four great-grandchildren.

The Lahaina community sends its sincere aloha and condolences to the entire Rosenthal family. May the Good Lord’s Peace be with you always. (By Walter Chihara)
