Aunty Babes Delatori leaves a legacy of generosity

By Staff | Feb 11, 2022

Memorial services for Emmaline Keakealani Delatori will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12.

Beloved Lahaina Kupuna Emmaline Keakealani Delatori took flight on Jan. 12, 2022 to everlasting peace with Our Heavenly Father above. “Auntie Babes” took her last breath on this Earth with Glen Delatori, her devoted husband of 46 years, at her side in their Wahikuli home. She was 85 years old.

Fondly known as one of the community’s foremost manifestations of the highly revered Hawaiian philosophy of Malama Pono, to nurture in a motherly way that which is good and righteous, Aunty Babes leaves a legacy of a lifetime of generosity to the welfare of Lahaina.

For over four generations, she taught Lahaina preschool-age keiki in an embracing manner that propagated the unification of ohana and community. Aunty Babes also led the formation of the Lahaina Chiefs Pop Warner Football cheerleading program and was the consistent drumbeat of support for the Lahainaluna High School football team.

Aunty Babes is survived by her loving husband, Glen Delatori; their children, Tommay Harbottle, Lou (Kalani) Moniz, Leo (Aulani) Delatori, Gerard Delatori, Dorcas (Kekoa) Cashman, and Lei-Ann (Randy) Hayes; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Memorial services for Aunty Babes, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at The Church of Latter Day Saints, Maui Lani Stake Center, 1300 Maui Lani Parkway. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m. Aunty Babes will be buried at Maui Memorial Cemetery Garden of Meditation.

Her family extended their sincere gratitude to family and friends that have given their aloha and support to Aunty Babes throughout her life. Special thanks went out to Rosemary Rico, the staff at Lahaina Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Kimmie Ouchi, the nursing staff, Island Hospice Team and the Lahaina JKS Karate Dojo for their support of the family.
