Learn to navigate the legislative session
The Hawaii State Legislature convened this week, with Opening Day on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
With the Capitol closed to the public for the near future due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Neighbor Island residents will have full access to all proceedings — information briefings, hearings and floor sessions — on the House and Senate’s YouTube pages.
And, when the hearings begin, citizens will be able to testify remotely via Zoom.
If the legislative process is still mystifying to you, learn more about getting involved through free, nonpolitical resources provided by the Public Access Room.
Upcoming Zoom workshops include “The Bill to Law Process” (walk through the process with an imaginary bill) on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 5 p.m.; “Finding Bills” (using the legislature’s website to find bills you’re interested in) on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m.; and “Understanding the Deadlines” (following the legislative calendar of deadlines) on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 5 p.m.
