Have a voice at the legislature

By Staff | Oct 22, 2021

Opening day (Jan. 19) at the Hawaii State Legislature will be here in no time. The Public Access Room encourages citizens to get prepared now.

PAR noted, “For advocates, that means it’s not too soon to be talking with lawmakers about what you’d like to see happen next session. The time is ripe for drafting bills!”

The Public Access Room provides information, facilities and services to assist citizens as they engage and participate in the state legislative process.

In preparation for the upcoming session, PAR is offering a series of free online workshops on Wednesday evenings. The schedule is: “Your Voice” on Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. — Overview of the legislature and how to add your voice to the process; “The Bill to Law Process” on Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. — Walk through the legislative process with an imaginary bill; “Using the Legislature Website’s Interactive Features” on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. — Testifying, tracking, signing up for hearing notices and searching for bills; “Communicating with Legislators” on Nov. 17 at 5 p.m. — Tips on advocacy and communicating with lawmakers.

Workshops are an hour or less. E-mail par@capitol.hawaii.gov or call (808) 587-0478 to register.

Capitalize on PAR’s guidance to help you navigate the fast-moving legislature and offer testimony.
