Help clean up Honolua Bay

By Staff | Feb 26, 2021

Honolua Bay stewards seek volunteers for a major cleanup on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 8 to 11 a.m.

Volunteers will meet in the Honolua Bay small parking area across from the purple food truck. Drop in any time between 8 and 10:30 a.m. and you’ll be directed to different areas that need attention.

Projects will include picking up litter around Honolua Bay and planting milo trees.

Volunteers will also load piles of rubbish collected at the baseyard into a trash dumpster. If you have a truck, you may be needed to haul some pallets or tires to the dump (e-mail ashley@dthmaui.com for information).

Mahalo to Les Potts, Damian Antioco, Down the Hatch, Breakwall Shave Ice Co., Mala Ocean Tavern, Save Honolua Coalition, The Coffee Store Napili and other sponsors of the cleanup for their ongoing efforts to protect the bay.

Bring closed toe shoes, a face mask, gloves, a positive attitude and a water bottle on Saturday. Trash bags will be provided for those cleaning up around the bay.

For more information, visit www.dthmaui.com.

If you can’t make it on Saturday, support the Save Honolua Coalition by making a donation on the group’s GoFundMe page.

“Our community is continuing to malama Honolua until the state management plan is completed and a funding mechanism is in place to pay for the care and upkeep of the area,” the page explains.

“Some residents, landscapers and building workers seem to be using this area as a dumping site, making regular cleanups a necessity.”

Please help this community partnership dedicated to keeping this cherished area clean.
