Learn about the Lahaina Education Center’s resources
The University of Hawaii Maui College Lahaina Education Center has a new coordinator, Dean Louie, who is eager to let the West Maui community know about its services and resources.
In partnership with the West Maui Taxpayers Association (Louie is a director for the nonprofit), the Lahaina Education Center will host a Zoom discussion on utilization of its resources to serve the West Maui community on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 9 to 11 a.m.
All are welcome to participate in the meeting. For more information, contact Louie at 662-3911 or dlouie@hawaii.edu.
Located at the entrance to the Front Street Apartments at 60 Kenui St., the UH outreach facility offers 2,800 square feet of classrooms, student study and conference space.
It was established in 2006 to reduce the lengthy round-trip commute to the main Kahului UHMC campus from West Maui for those seeking education and skills training for our Maui industries.
In addition to supporting incoming UHMC students from high schools, the center staff is actively looking for ways to partner with West Maui community groups needing space for classes, lessons, training or civic events.
The center has a lot to offer: quiet, air-conditioned, socially-distanced study areas; high-speed Wi-Fi and Ethernet; PC and iMac desktop computers; LED monitors for distance learning; printing services; a Dell Laptop Loan Program; Library Lounge and board games; and free parking.
In addition, the center also offers the community the following resources: Hospitality Industry Sanitation Certification; customized workforce training classes; audio/video conferencing capability with widescreen monitors; room rentals for meetings, teaching or tutoring; and professional test proctoring.
Plan to participate in the Zoom meeting and link your company or community group with the Lahaina Education Center’s many resources.
