Beloved Lahaina community personality Doug Shue passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 8 at the age of 83.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie Irwin; children Robin, Steve and Greg; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as his first wife and mother of the children, Lynn Shue.
Doug was born in Goshen, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University. He came to Maui when the old Hilton was being built and later went into private practice as a CPA.
He worked for decades as a CPA here on the West Side, and he will be fondly remembered as the former commodore of the Lahaina Yacht Club and Toastmaster of the Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament for many years.
“He was a big man with an even bigger heart,” remembered a close friend following his passing.
His three children all attended Lahainaluna High School and went on to establish families and business careers of their own.
Robin is a teacher in Portland, Steve owns a health club in Tempe and Greg is an architect in San Antonio.
The Lahaina community sends its fond aloha to the Shue family and will remember always the positive influence and contributions of Doug Shue.
