Help prepare students for the upcoming school year

By Staff | Jul 4, 2019

The 2019-20 school year is fast approaching, with students returning to class on Aug. 5.

To help equip students, His Grace Ministries will hold a Back to School Party on Sunday, July 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wahikuli Wayside Park (Lahaina side), following a church service at 9 a.m.

“It’s our annual free event for the keiki getting ready to return to school… We have 100 backpacks full of their much-needed school supplies,” Laura Boes explained. “And a party, too!”

The event will feature music and games, hot dogs, chips and drinks.

The first 100 keiki will receive backpacks with school supplies (the child must be present). For more information, call (808) 269-5309.

Next, money is so tight for some families that they can barely afford slippers for their children. The schools also need a surplus in case students lose or break them.

Recognizing the need, the West Maui Community Task Force is holding its first annual Back to School “Slippahs” Drive on Saturday, July 13, at the Carnival at the Cannery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lahaina Cannery Mall.

The group will also be collecting slippers the month of July at 5A Rent A Space at 3600 Lower Honoapiilani Road in Honokowai and Lahaina Yacht Club at 835 Front St.

For more information, call the West Maui Community Task Force at (808) 731-0941 or e-mail info@wmctf.com.

Keep an eye out for school supplies drives and support our needy students in Maui County.
