West Maui community loses Francis Kamakawiwo‘ole Jr.
He was a giant of a man, but his presence was manifested more in the gentle kindness of his spirit than his physical being.
Lahaina’s Francis “Kimmie” Kamakawiwo’ole Jr. passed on to the stairway to Heaven on April 11, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 61.
He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as one who sincerely reflected the spirit of aloha.
In his soft spoken way and easy going demeanor, Kamakawiwo’ole personified Hawaiian respect for his fellow human beings and the forces of nature.
He became a guiding light – an example of island integrity for all of us to follow.
He will be remembered by his loving wife, Lynne; their children, Francis III (Millicent) and Mychael (ArielMae); grandchildren Camile, Carlyanne, Francis IV (“Caleb”), Mitchell and Mathew; brother Jason; sisters Yvonne and Yvette; stepmother Patricia; stepbrothers Clarence (“Mackie”), Jimbo and Jonah; and stepsisters Phyllis and Tammy. He is predeceased by his parents, Francis Sr. and Ann Bernice, of Waianae.
A Celebration of Life was held on May 5 at Ballard Family Mortuary, presided by Pastor Taylor “Kalei” Kamakawiwo’ole, Francis’ nephew.
The Lahaina community sends its heartfelt condolences to the Kamakawiwo’ole ohana. May the Lord’s peace be with you always.
