A tribute to Allyn Ester Napualani Lum

By Staff | Mar 14, 2019

For so many years, Allyn Ester Napualani Lum stood at the pulpit at Maria Lanakila and Sacred Hearts Mission Churches as a servant of God to deliver His message. She exuded a demeanor of kindness and love and read with a succinct and articulate manner that touched the congregation with the Lord’s sincerity.

He gathered her into His heavenly embrace on Feb. 22, and took her to be with Him in her final resting place. Lum was 67 as she passed away peacefully under Hospice care surrounded by the love of family and the Lahaina community.

She attended Sacred Hearts School in Lahaina, Saint Anthony High School in Wailuku and Fort Wright College of the Holy Names in Spokane, Washington, before beginning a teaching career. She returned home to Maui to work in the hospitality industry and as a faithful servant of God’s message in her Catholic faith.

She was born on Feb. 16, 1952 at Pioneer Mill Hospital in Lahaina to parents Jacob Solomon Lum Sr. and Juliette F. Rickard Lum. She leaves siblings Natalie (Bobo) Naleieha, Eryck Lum, Gerri Lum, Joseph “Joey” Lum (deceased), Mary Clare Lum, Jacob S. Lum Jr. and Kristie (Tyga) Felicilda, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life and mass were held at Sacred Hearts Mission Church and at Maria Lanakila Church on March 1-2. The family thanked Hospice Maui for their extraordinary care and compassion – especially Connie, Scott, Josephine, Monneka and Teresa.

Aloha, Allyn. May the Lord’s peace be with you always.
