Help send Lahainaluna HOSA students to compete against the world’s best

By Staff | Mar 15, 2018

A group of Lahainaluna High School students has worked hard and qualified to attend an international event – reportedly the greatest opportunity a high school student can experience if planning a career in a health or medical field.

Students of Lahainaluna’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Chapter, including Grace Takemoto, Alexis Matias, Anjanette Aveno, Eva Olson, Krizhna Bayudan, Rowel Ansagay, Isabella Omura, Nikki Zamani, Ma Eloisa Tumpap, Shanel Mangaong, Sierra Carney, Caitlin Baclay, Trinity Belmont and Jean Ganoy, advanced through Maui and state competitions to earn invites to the prestigious International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Dallas, Texas, from June 24 to July 1, 2018.

They seek donations from the community to help fund their once-in-a-lifetime trip.

“At the ILC, we not only compete against and network with the best in the world, but we also attend professional workshops, expositions, keynote speeches and award ceremonies,” the students wrote in a recent letter.

“Because many of us and our families are saving money for college, the cost of our trip to the ILC can be prohibitive.

“Though we do some fundraising to help cover the cost, we’re also diligently preparing for our competitions. Earning a top-10 placement is a game-changer on our college applications and resumes. So, we could use your help.”

All donations will be deposited into the Lahainaluna HOSA account and will help cover the traveling costs for a particular student or the entire group. Make your check out to Lahainaluna HOSA; and, if you’re supporting one student in particular, include the name in the memo line. A thank you letter will be sent for tax write-off purposes.

Send checks to Lahainaluna HOSA (c/o specific student, if applicable), 980 Lahainaluna Road,?Lahaina, HI 96761.

Part of the Health Services Pathway, HOSA prepares students for college and a career in medicine.

Similar to the school’s top sports programs, Lahainaluna HOSA students have a tradition of excellence at the district, state, national and now GLOBAL level.
