Rotary makes it easy to get involved in community service
Want to get involved with the community but don’t know where to start? Join the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset at its July Friend Raiser event, where members will discuss the club’s volunteer opportunities and how you can get involved in serving the residents of West Maui.
At the event on Tuesday, July 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort in Kaanapali, Sunset members will share information about the club’s community service projects, including the monthly Third Saturday Recycling program at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Volunteers are sought for this very successful program that has collected thousands of pounds of materials and kept them out of county landfills.
Club members also hold drives for the Maui Food Bank, serve lunch at the Salvation Army and read to elementary school children through the Read Aloud America program, among other service projects.
“The Friend Raiser is a fun, pressure-free opportunity for residents to learn how they can get involved in community service activities that make a real difference,” said Co-president Mariko Higashi.
The club will provide complimentary pupus, and there will be a no-host bar with happy hour drink prices until 6 p.m. Parking is free for attendees.
