Support Project Graduation for the Lahainaluna Class of 2017
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens.
Prior to the start of Project Graduation events, Maui had a history of tragic crashes on high school graduation nights.
Project Graduation is an event held for the graduating class to keep them in a safe party environment.
The students go to a memorable, supervised, all-night celebration with their classmates. Equally important, the new graduates are not drinking and driving, out on the roads late at night or engaging in activities that put their lives at risk.
To help Lahainaluna High School stage an outstanding Project Graduation for the Class of 2017, the ninth annual Legacy Cup golf tournament will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Kaanapali Golf Courses. Registration starts at 7 a.m., and the four-person team scramble tourney starts at 8:30 a.m.
Tournament Chairman Joel Navarro noted, “The leading killer of teens is car accidents due to drinking and driving. Preventing such deaths on our roads is the main goal of this program.
“The Project Graduation event is planned completely by parents with the help and support of school administration and community members. A project such as this sets a very important example for our youth and requires our support to be successful. Let us join together and raise the funds to continue this legacy of responsibility for our Maui graduates.”
The entry fee is $800 per four-person team, which includes continental breakfast, two “mulligans” per person, par three contest, green/cart fees, entry gift and an awards luncheon at Roy’s Kaanapali.
The Legacy Cup Trophy will be awarded to the winning team along with a special grand prize. Other prizes will include resort, golf course and restaurant certificates, golf merchandise and much more.
