The Surfrider Foundation-Maui Chapter at an upcoming event will celebrate Ocean Heroes – “those individuals who have gone above and beyond when it comes to making a difference for our island’s coastlines and surf breaks.”

This year’s honorees are all well known on the West Side: Tamara Paltin (environmentalist), Archie Kalepa (athlete) and Trilogy Excursions (business).

Although each hero of the year is involved in many community and ocean efforts, many know Paltin from the Save Honolua Coalition and ocean safety.

Kalepa is a legendary waterman and Hawaii lifeguarding pioneer.

Trilogy holds important Blue’aina Reef Cleanups and supports other marine research and conservation programs.

Help support Surfrider Maui and honor this trio at the Ocean Heroes Awards Celebration?from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 at Lumeria Maui in Makawao.

This special evening will feature a catered garden to table reception, the environmental awards ceremony, silent auction featuring handcrafted surfboards and much more, and intimate musical performance by Kanekoa.
