Help improve student achievement at Lahainaluna High School

By Staff | Jun 18, 2015

With generations of families in West Maui attending Lahainaluna High School, residents here love the historic school and often volunteer to help in some way.

People in the community may not be aware of the Lahainaluna School Community Council and its important role in guiding LHS.

The SCC, part of the leadership structure at Lahainaluna, enables shared decision-making among principals, teachers, school staff, parents, students and community members to improve student achievement.

Members help create the school’s Academic Plan and Financial Plan, which establish the goals and programs for the school, factoring available resources.

The SCC involves the community in the discussion of educational issues and helps the school identify and respond to the educational needs of the community.

Lahainaluna’s SCC currently seeks new members. Any community person interested in serving on the Lahainaluna High School SCC Board as a parent or community representative should submit their name via e-mail to Debbie_Rogers @notes.k12.hi.us or Shannon_fields@notes.k12.hi.us.

Members must commit to attend a monthly meeting held the first Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the LHS Library.

By volunteering, you can learn about educational research and factors that impact student achievement, serve as an important partner in the education system, contribute to the shared goal of improving student achievement at Lahainaluna, have a vehicle to express opinions and share ideas, and stay up-to-date on what is happening at the school.

Volunteer and help the school community at Lahainaluna.
