Contribute to Lahaina’s Fourth of July fireworks
With summer approaching fast, LahainaTown Action Committee is once again raising money for the Fourth of July fireworks show in Lahaina.
Independence Day has become West Maui’s biggest summer event and one of the largest celebrations on the island.
LAC Executive Director Lynn Donovan noted in a recent e-mail, “We are asking for your help again this year to keep the 4th of July fireworks alive. It is a major economic event for West Maui businesses right now, and Lahaina business can definitely benefit from the increased traffic.
“Lahaina is the place to be for Maui’s biggest official aerial fireworks display. It is an event residents and visitors have come to expect and enjoy.”
LAC’s fundraising goal is $50,000 for the event. Joan McKelvey, Fran Mitsumura, Becky Lennon, Tambara Garrick and other event committee members currently have $17,500 in pledges.
“A 4th of July celebration would not be the same without a spectacular fireworks display. The cost of the fireworks alone are upwards of $40,000, plus there are other event expenses,” Donovan explained.
“Last year, with the generosity of the community and business leaders such as yourself, the event was a HUGE success with an estimated 20,000 participants. We are reaching out again for 2015 and looking for your support.”
We hope that Maui businesses, cruise boats, resorts and organizations will help LahainaTown Action Committee continue the tradition and stage the town’s old-fashioned Independence Day celebration.
