Help Surfrider protect the ocean
Ocean enthusiasts in West Maui should join the Surfrider Foundation, Maui Chapter. Currently sitting at 68 members, Surfrider is on a mission to build up its ranks.
Residents can learn about the Surfrider Foundation at a fun event on Saturday, Nov. 22. “Malama Honolua: Surfrider Foundation’s Surf Movie Night” will be held at Maui Preparatory Academy from 5 to 8 p.m.
At the event, Surfrider will celebrate surf culture, the state’s recent purchase of Honolua Bay and the upcoming Target Maui Pro, an ASP Women’s World Tour event, at Honolua from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6.
Surfrider Foundation Maui will show the most classic surf movie in history: “The Endless Summer.” Bring your friends and family to this community event to celebrate Honolua and get involved with the foundation.
Guests are asked to contribute a donation or purchase a Surfrider membership. Register on Facebook at www.facebook.com/events/742523859155077/?source=1.
The Maui Chapter is working to preserve beach access, improve nearshore water quality and protect recreational and cultural sites through CARE: Conservation, Activism, Research and Education.
The chapter can be more effective with new members and stronger influence. Surfrider noted in an e-mail, “Your contributions go to so many valuable sources: Beach cleanup materials, legal advocacy fees, ocean garden tools, public signage, national officers who engage and persuade lawmakers, water quality testing kits, community events – the list goes on. Join for at least $25 and be a part of the solution!”
Support this group that advocates for the ocean. Join by attending the movie night or visiting maui.surfrider.org/.
