Lahaina Pop Warner needs help — fast!

By Staff | Aug 14, 2014

With the season approaching quickly, Lahaina Pop Warner Chiefs teams need players and coaches.

The Tiny Mites (ages 5-7) will not field a team – and will have to forego the Pop Warner Football season – unless coaches are signed up on or before Monday, Aug. 18.

“Each division is looking for players, and each division can always use extra hands for coaching and motivating,” noted Monica DeSoto, board vice president of the Tiny Mites.

“We are hoping to reach out to our community and ask for volunteers.”

The Tiny Mites Division also seeks a few boys ages 5-7, weighing 35 to 75 pounds. Practice will be held Monday through Friday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. throughout August.

DeSoto said the Tiny Mites Division needs a head coach and assistant coaches. The league hopes coaches can come to as many practices as possible and all games. If a few coaches are recruited, they can rotate practices.

Coaches must take a Heads Up Football test online. Experience in coaching and certification in CPR would be a plus.

For information on volunteering, becoming a coach or playing this season, contact Veronica Long, president of the Tiny Mites Board, at Mauirain84@aol.com or (808) 283-9976, or DeSoto at Monicamaui@gmail.com or (808) 359-9200.

“Please help us help these keikis, so they may enjoy the experience of playing football. This is a great way to get your children off the couch, exercising, socializing and learning the game of football as well as respect for our coaches,” DeSoto concluded.
