Help fund Lahaina’s Fourth of July fireworks

By Staff | May 29, 2014

LahainaTown Action Committee encourages the Maui community to contribute to the fundraising effort for Lahaina’s popular Fourth of July fireworks show.

The fundraising goal is $50,000 for Lahaina’s biggest summertime event. Currently, the committee – members include Joan McKelvey, Fran Mitsumura, Connie Sutherland, Becky Lennon and Tambara Garrick – has collected $17,000 in pledges.

“We are looking for a grassroots energy for the fireworks fundraising this year. If everyone gave a little, we will get there in no time,” said Lynn Donovan, LAC executive director.

“We urge local businesses to support by donating and also decorating their storefronts with flags and buntings. Deadline for company logos on the official Lahaina poster will be June 4.”

Look for the two “thermometers” in Lahaina Town to track the fundraising progress.

With more donations, LahainaTown Action Committee hopes to increase the length of the fireworks show from the traditional ten minutes.

Sne Patel, LAC president, said, “We want this year’s event to be bigger and better than ever. It will take the community and businesses’ support to help make that happen.”

Donation boxes will be available throughout town at local merchants, including Pioneer Inn, First Hawaiian Mortgage, Capt. Jacks, Island Grill, Cool Cat Cafe, Lulu’s, Maui Theatre, Betty’s Beach Cafe and Hair Salon Unlimited. Contributions can also be made by calling the Lahaina Visitor Center at (808) 667-9193 or mailing to 648 Wharf St., Lahaina, HI 96761.

Help LAC stage a memorable Fourth of July event for the community. All of the restaurants and boats that benefit from the show should support it.
