The Project Vision Hawaii bus will soon circle Maui, with volunteers offering much-needed health screenings.

Look for the 35-foot, orange bus on Thursday, April 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army Lahaina at 131 Shaw St., then from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Center-Westside at 15 Ipu ‘Aumakua Lane above Lahaina Recreation Center.

Oahu-based nonprofits WE . . . a hui for health and Project Vision Hawaii are offering the free screenings for the third straight year in Valley Isle communities.

Health screenings, each up to an hour in length, may include retinal (eye/vision) testing, blood pressure checks and Community Alliance for Mental Health counseling for issues such as depression and PTSD.

One-on-one education and materials may involve glucose (diabetes) screening; resources from the Hepatitis Support Network, Legacy of Life Hawaii (organ/tissue donors) and National Kidney Foundation; women’s health; and how to avoid scams and Medicare fraud.

Organizers will offer free ‘Ohana Health Plan tote bags and free reading glasses at all sites, plus free haircuts on Thursday at Ka Hale A Ke Ola in Lahaina.

The bus will also stop for free screenings on April 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Harbor Lights/Kahului Swap Meet at 111 Kahului Beach Road; April 25 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Hale Kau Kau at St. Theresa Church at 25 W. Lipoa St. in Kihei; April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Da Kidney Da Kine Day at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center; and April 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Living Way Church at 399 N. Market St. in Happy Valley (also includes free haircuts).
