Help send Lahaina hoops players to Oregon

By Staff | May 16, 2013

The West Maui Girls Basketball Club has once again received an invite to compete in the 2013 End of the Trail Oregon Basketball Shootout Classic in July.

This prestigious basketball tournament showcases the top schools from all over the United States.

In addition to playing against some of the best high school players in the country, participants audition for college scouts and coaches and gain national exposure to, hopefully, one day play at the college level.

For athletes from small town Lahaina, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

To help raise the $2,000 per player travel expenses, the club will hold a Spaghetti Dinner & Silent Auction on May 29, Canoe Regatta Breakfast Jam on June 1, Ono BBQ Plate Lunch/Car Wash on June 15 and Kickball Tournament on June 22. Donations of silent auction items, food and beverages, entertainment and services are welcome for the fundraisers.

“We are open to suggestions – we can ‘Scoop for Hoops’ at your ice cream shop or do a ‘Clean Sweep’ and clean your yard, store or home,” noted club supporter Lehuanani Huddleston-Hafoka.

For information, call Coach Mike Bates at 357-2056 or Huddleston-Hafoka at 281-9135. WGBC is a nonprofit organization, so donations are tax-deductible.

With your help, Andilyn Alavazo, Kalena Balingit, Lindsey Bates, Taylor Bates, Kyla Blando-Kahaiali’i, Mina Faaumu, Cameron Fernandez, Fa-Ko-Fieme’a Hafoka, Lau Hafoka, Lisa Hafoka, Keleah Koloi, Loke Rosenthal, Aloha Salem and Kalo Uhila can compete on a national stage.
