Walk to support Maui Adult Day Care Centers

By Staff | Feb 21, 2013

Maui Adult Day Care Centers has a clear mission: “To provide adult day care services to our clients in a family environment that is safe and filled with love, and provide support to their families and caregivers.”

The centers in Lahaina and around Maui help families by providing a social daytime therapeutic program for individuals who are frail or elderly, individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other related forms of dementia, and adults who are physically and mentally challenged.

The Maui community can learn more about Maui Adult Day Care Centers and support this important charity by joining their “Family Caregiver Walk A Walk for Our Kupuna & Caregivers” on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 7 to 11 a.m. at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.

A 3.5-mile walk will begin and end at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, and a mini-walk for kupuna will be held in the mall.

Come join the fun – with everything free – to say thank you for supporting Maui Adult Day Care Centers.

The event will feature entertainment with Danny Couch, Ahumanu, and Friends Forever; free food; massages; a health fair; glucose testing; prize drawings; and a chance to win a free round-trip to Las Vegas.

This year’s Family Caregiver Walk will honor the family of Stephen & Phyllis Ross, 102-year-old Queen Louise Lucas, and Kings Satoshi Akiyama (97 years young) and Arthur Nakamura, 96.

There will also be a special remembrance to honor Pastor Walter Baloaloa (one of the founders of Maui Adult Day Care Centers) and Damiana Juan, 107 years old, who served as centenarian queen for the Family Caregiver Walk over the last seven years.

Money raised will help support Maui Adult Day Care Centers’ weekday programs, Saturday respite, Sun Downing program and the high-functioning/intergenerational program at the Nisei Veterans Memorial Center.

Funds will also help keep the cost to families and caregivers down, continue monthly caregiver support groups and workshops, and provide scholarships for individuals in financial need.

Join all the fun and activities planned for Saturday! Walk for our kupuna and support a very worthy cause: Maui Adult Day Care Centers in Lahaina, Kihei, Kahului, Wailuku and Hana.
