Well-known in Lahaina for her No Ka Oi Deli, Laurie Lei DeGama is reaching out to the community to help a family member.

After experiencing pain in her head, DeGama’s niece, Caitlan Marie Bayudan Drury, 15, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

“On November 13th, Caitlan underwent her first surgery at Kaiser. As anyone might imagine, this has taken a serious toll, emotionally and financially, on both Caitlan and her family,” DeGama wrote.

“Her medical insurance covers only half of all treatment costs, and the expenses are mounting rapidly.”

To help Caitlan and her family, the Puou Ohana, a spaghetti dinner will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 5 p.m. at Lahaina Civic Center. The benefit will feature entertainment by family and friends and a silent auction.

Donations to the Friends of Caitlan Drury Fund will also be accepted at all Bank of Hawaii branches.

The daughter of Marie Bayudan and Bill Drury is a “fun-spirited individual with a bright future,” her aunty noted.

The King Kekaulike High School sophomore is an honor roll student who enjoys going to the beach, paddling with Lae Ula O Kai, playing soccer and volleyball, and shopping. Her goal is to attend college and major in dentistry.

DeGama hopes the community will help Caitlan’s family.

“The Puou Ohana is one of the most generous and kindhearted families known to the many people around them and are certainly deserving of our support, as they have done so much for our community,” DeGama stated.
