Bartenders at Hula Grill to support victim of brutal attack
Hula Grill Kaanapali bartenders on “Black Friday,” Nov. 25, will donate all of their tips earned that day to a very worthy cause.
Tip earnings will be donated to 70-year-old Mary Davy of Hilo, who is recovering from a violent attack and burglary in her home.
“Mary’s daughter, Suzanne, is a good friend of many of our employees, and when we found out what had happened to her mother, we really wanted to do everything we could to help,” said Hula Grill Bar Manager Lisa Olmos.
“The holidays are all about sharing the aloha spirit, and we encourage our guests to join us in our effort to support Ms. Davy.”
It was a horrible crime that shocked and galvanized the Hilo community.
Davy was asleep when the 18-year-old male suspect entered her Puna residence, brutally attacking her and burglarizing her home.
She suffered numerous stab wounds to her upper body, as well as severe bruising and lacerations on her head, face and neck.
Davy, a mother of six with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, is now recovering. The suspect was arrested for first-degree burglary and second-degree attempted murder.
Like we often see in West Maui, the Hilo community is helping Davy by holding bake sales and launching web pages. A “Mary Davy Donations” page is up on Facebook, as well as a donations page at United Hero.
“The horror of having a stranger break into your home and attack you is insurmountable. Nobody should ever have to go through that,” Olmos said.
“We hope our donation will help to offset some of Ms. Davy’s medical bills that resulted from this terrifying incident.”
