Community rallying to support Huck’s family

By Staff | Aug 11, 2011

A benefit for Erika Huck's family is set for Sunday at Lulu's at Lahaina Cannery Mall.

Erika Huck’s friends and family are holding a fund-raiser on Sunday, Aug. 14, to support her healing journey.

The former pre-kindergarten teacher at Maui Preparatory Academy was recently diagnosed with an inoperable knot on her brain.

The condition has impacted Huck’s ability to walk and read, among other complications.

Many people in the West Maui community know ever-positive, spiritual Huck through her role as a teacher and day care provider, or through her children, Sarafina and Santana, who are outstanding students.

“Erika Huck has touched the lives of our children as an amazing teacher and day care provider,” friends noted in an announcement for her benefit.

“She is considered by many of us to be a part of our extended family. Anyone in our close-knit West Maui community who’s encountered Erika has witnessed the joy of life and warmth she so naturally shines.”

Sunday’s fund-raiser to help the Huck Family with its medical challenges will begin at 6 p.m. at Lulu’s Lahaina at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Admission is $20 at the door; keiki 18 and under can get in for $5.

The benefit will feature a special performance by Uncle Willie K; a Keiki Zone with games, activities and entertainment; door prizes; and an amazing silent auction.

Items to bid on include a private drum lesson with Mick Fleetwood, a guitar from Mike Kroeger signed by his bandmates in Nickelback, private boat charter on the Maui Jim, resort stays, spa treatments, restaurant meals, golf and much more.
