Try Point and Speak on your iPhone

By BY GEORGE GORDON / Computer Guru - | Nov 27, 2023

Did you know that you can take photos through the Notes App and make it so they won’t show up in the Photo App?

Go to Settings > Notes, then turn off “Save to Photos.” Now, open the Notes App. Create a new note and tap the camera. Go ahead and take a photo, then check to see if it shows up in the photos.

RCS will improve cross-platform messaging, which means you’ll be able to text Android phones and be able to send pictures, messages, emoji and everything to them. The photos will come much out better, too.

How do you use Point and Speak on the iPhone? This mode can be activated by triple-tapping the screen with four fingers. Once activated, you can point your device’s camera at an item, and the text will be read out loud. This feature is particularly useful for reading physical documents or identifying products, making it a valuable tool for users with visual impairments.

Now you can receive image descriptions of your surroundings in Magnifier on the iPhone. Turn on Magnifier, Tap the Detection Mode button on the lower right, then tap the Image Descriptions button. Position the iPhone so the rear camera can get image descriptions of the world around you. If you don’t hear the speech feedback, make sure Silent mode is turned off. What is Contact Key Verification? Apple has put a lot of emphasis on security over the past few years, and the release of iOS 17.2 comes with a brand new feature: Contact Key Verification (CKV). It’s a new setting for iMessage, which ensures you can be certain that the person you’re messaging is who you think they are. Contact Key Verification is an opt-in setting for iMessage, designed to offer automatic alerts if unverified devices are detected.

The idea here is that once you have Contact Key Verification set up on your iMessage account, each device has its own public verification key. The warning comes when a device suddenly appears in an iMessage account that isn’t recognized. It suggests that someone has snuck their way into a conversation in a way that would otherwise be undetected.

There’s an app called Freeform that allows you to create shapes of any size with text and photos. It’s not like a document in Pages, but Freeform gives you more graphic options. I tried it out the other day to make a poster and wow — it was really fun and easy!
