Use Visual Look Up to search for photos online

By BY GEORGE GORDON / Computer Guru - | Nov 20, 2023

Visual Look Up is a new feature that Apple has come out with that is very similar to Google Lens. What it does is when you open up a photo, it detect the subjects within it, then looks them up for you online.

Not only that, but you can hold your finger or mouse over the subject and it lifts the subject up, so you can copy and paste it into another application like Pages.

To use Visual Look Up, open up the Photos App, choose a Photo then tap on the “I” button. On the next screen, tap “Look Up” and view your results. With that, you can identify a plant, tree, dog or even a cat breed. You can also take pictures of dashboard warning lights in your car, and it will tell you what the symbols mean.

You can even take a picture of a dish of food, and it will give you the recipe so that you can make it at home.

The new 17.2 iOS for the iPhone coming out soon has the really cool Journal App. It’s actually a diary.

Apple has been looking into virtual reality for quite some time now. The Quest II headsets allow you to view 360-degree videos, and Apple’s headset (which sells for over $3,000) does the same. But now Apple has developed glasses that may sell around $300 that allow you to see the same effects. With this, the iPhone can start to record or capture “Spatial Video” for new headset.

Siri can now tell you the current altitude and give you an ETA when using Apple Maps. The Health App can tell you your heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure. With the Memoji App, you can now show your chest along with your face.

Every once in a while, I’ll open up a news article and would like to read it… but it’s just so long. It would be nice if I could just kick back, relax and listen to it. Well, there is a way to do that.

If you open up a news article — in Google, for example — click on the share button and then click on “open in browser,” all you need to do is to ask Siri to “read this page.” Now you can just kick back and listen to the whole article being read by Siri.

There is more coming out with iOS17.2 for the iPhone in a few weeks, so be ready to read more cool stuff.
