Have fun cutting out pictures and pasting them into other images

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Jan 20, 2023

In this issue, we’ll have some fun in cutting out a person from a photo and placing him or her in an e-mail or in the Pages App. In my last article, I showed you all how to do it on the iPhone, but if you have the current operation system called Ventura on your Mac, get ready for some more fun.

We’re going to cut out a person from a photo and paste him or her into another image, and the background will be hidden. Let’s say you want to pull yourself out of a photo in a wedding and put yourself on top on Mount Everest.

Well, there are about three ways of doing this so let’s get started. It beats putting a puzzle together (but faster).

Let’s first open up Pages and create a blank document. Now open up the Photos App and choose a photo with you in it. Hold down your mouse on it, drag it over to the Pages App and release your mouse. Okay, that wasn’t hard. Now we’ll remove you from the background.

Click on the photo, and a menu on the top right shows up called “Image.” Choose “Remove background” and click on the image. Are you totally amazed? Now let’s have some more fun pasting you in the background on another photo.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a photo of a mountain? No worries if you don’t. Again, we’re going to open up Photos, choose a photo of yourself and drag it over to the desktop. Now, with Photos still open, drag another photo that is taken on a beach, desert, mountain or some other place you like. Drag it also to the desktop. We now have both photos on the desktop. Right-click on the photo of yourself and a menu pops down. Choose “Open With” and choose “Preview.” Preview opens up with your handsome face in it. Move your mouse to the top of the screen, and under “Tools” choose “Remove background.” There you go — the background has completely disappeared. Now go back to the desktop and right-click on the photo that is a desert, beach or whatever you chose. Right-click on it and choose Open with Preview. Now with both Previews showing side by side on your desktop, go over to the Preview App with your picture on it, hold down your mouse and make a big square around it. Next, click on Edit at the top and choose “Copy.”

Are your ready for the mind blower? Go on over to the desert, mountain or beach Preview App showing on the desktop and click on it with your mouse. In the very top, choose “Edit “and “Paste.” Whammo! There is your handsome face, and you can now move it around the beach or mountain top, and also shrink or expand it.

Did you just show your friends that you climbed up Mount Everest?

Now for e-mail, all you need to is just open up Photos, choose one, drag it to the desktop, right-click on it and choose “Open With” Preview. In Preview, choose Tools at the top and click on “Remove Background.” With your mouse, select the whole image, right- click and choose Copy. Go on over to your e-mail, click in the center, then choose Edit at the top and Paste.

There you are — the cutout is now in your e-mail. This can be used in many ways, like cutting yourself out of a photo and pasting yourself in a wedding picture.

Have fun and try it out. It beats trying to figure out where the next puzzle piece fits in!
