iPhone owners can join Fitness+

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Dec 2, 2022

It’s now possible for any iPhone owner to join Fitness+, which only used to be on an Apple Smartwatch.

Apple Fitness+ is a paid-service, like Apple Music or Apple TV+. It gets you access to thousands of studio-style workouts and meditations led by proper personal trainers. They’ll guide you through workouts of different lengths and intensities, while your progress is tracked on screen via the App.

What is Live activity? Think of this as an extension to Notifications that you get on the iPhone Lock Screen, which can show you real-time updates. You can, for example, add a Live Activity for the duration of a sporting event — like a football game — and it gives you updates on the score and other information.

You can also set one up when you’re expecting a Pizza takeout delivery and get updates on when your food is due to arrive.

If you have an iPhone with Face ID, you’ll now have the option to see the battery percentage within the battery icon at the top of the display. Go to Settings, Battery and click on Battery Percentage.

What is a Shared Photo Album? Before iOS 16.1, any photos you took, you’d have to manually move them to the Shared Album. Now, you can tell the Camera App that the photos you’re about to take will be sent to a Shared Album, and they’ll automatically appear there. So the people who you only choose will be able to see these pictures, and no one else will be able to view them.

Every time you provide your phone number to a company or organization, there’s a risk you’ll be added to a growing list of contacts. Suddenly, you’re getting promotional messages from a store that you only shopped at one time.

Luckily, there is a solution to junk mail cropping up in your Text Messages. Navigate to Settings, tap Messages, and select “filter unknown senders.” Now, any message from an unknown contact will be filtered into a separate list, which you can check out later or forget it even exits. You’ll see only Messages from the people you want to hear from, or at least from people you know.

Here is something cool if you want to hand write a message. From the Message App, turn your iPhone sideways into landscape mode, and you’ll notice a new icon pop up next to the “return” key. Clicking this swirly icon takes you to a screen with an open field that now you can write on. Using your Apple pencil or your finger, you can write a message in your own handwriting and express yourself a little more personally.
