Exploring the best features of iOS 16
In this issue, I’ll go over some of the best features of iOS 16 that just came out. So, let’s get started after you install the new software on your iPhone.
Ready for the first mind-blower? Open up Photos and choose a photo with people in it. Let’s say you have a photo of you and your girlfriend next to a cheap $90-a-day hotel and want to send the picture of you both smiling — but not the cheap hotel in the background.
All you have to do is press your finger on the photo and a blurry thing happens so fast that you hardly notice it. Don’t worry, because it just cut out both of you without the background.
A message pops up, so click on Copy. Now open up an e-mail, and after you fill out who you want to send it to, hold your finger down in the center of the page and PASTE suddenly appears. Click OK and whammy — there is your cutout picture. This is totally amazing. If you want to add sound to your keyboard strokes, go to Settings, Sound and Haptics, select Keyboard Feedback and select Enable Haptic toggle. I like this effect, hearing the tap sound every time I punch a letter on the keyboard.
I mentioned that the iPhone 14 can connect to a satellite that can send emergency text messages. This service is free for two years and could cost you $50 per year later.
This will activate in November of this year. To use this, you must be outdoors with a clear view of the sky and point it in the right directions (the iPhone will show you).
This service might be useful if you’re climbing Mount Everest, lose a snowshoe and there is no Internet service.
The satellite service call could let Bombay Air drop a parachute with your shoe on it.
“Find My” will let friends and family know where you. It can be used with the Apple Air Tags.
I have four of the air tags; I placed three on my dogs and one on my iPhone case.
They only work best with an iPhone 12 Pro Max and higher. If you have an older iPhone, don’t bother.
I’ll continue next issue with more cool features.
