Have trouble remembering passwords? Set up Passkeys

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Sep 16, 2022

Apple is ready to launch Satellite Connectivity with Globalstar in the upcoming iPhone 14 series. Users will be able to report emergencies and can send short messages without being connected to Wi-Fi.

Get ready all you people who forget your passwords. Apple’s latest version of iOS 14 will bring a new feature called Passkeys to your iPhone. It will give you a more secure and even faster way to log into your accounts without the need to enter any passwords. Passkeys are unique digital keys stored on your device designed to replace passwords. They work with Touch ID or Face ID and sync across all of your Apple devices.

With passkeys, logins are even more secure because there’s no actual password to speak of. So when you try to log in, your iPhone authorizes the Passkey via Touch ID or Face ID, and you’re automatically connected to the site.

To turn on Passkeys, go to Settings, Profile, iCloud, Passwords and Keychain, Sync this iPhone. You will need to enter your iCloud and iPhone passcodes to proceed.

Remembering Wi-Fi router passwords — especially ones that are long combinations of letters, numbers and special characters — is hard. Lucky for you, that’s all in the past. Apple has added a new feature in iOS 16 that lets you see the password to a Wi-Fi network that your iPhone is connected to.

You’ll need to have iOS 16 installed on your iPhone, and once you’ve connected to a Wi-Fi network, your iPhone will already know the password, and if you tap the right buttons, it’ll reveal it. This is useful for sharing the password with friends and family.

To see this, open up Settings on your iPhone, tap Wi-Fi, tap on the Wi-Fi router’s name, tap the password box and authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID, then tap “Copy.” This will copy the password to your clipboard, and you can then paste it anywhere — like in the Notes App or in your e-mail, so you can send it to friends and family.

Here are a couple of new cool apps that just came out recently that you might want to look at.

Have you ever driven when it’s foggy or raining heavily? You can use the Hudway App to display the directions on your car’s windshield.

Now you can use your iPhone as a simple metal detector. Apps will use a built-in magnetometer to find metallic objects as you move your device, and notify you when it finds a metal object.

You can use your smartphone as a breathalyzer by installing an app like BACtrack, but you also need an actual breathalyzer from BACtrack that connects with your phone and syncs with the app.

Lost your remote again? Guess what? You don’t need to find it if you have a smartphone. Newer iPhones typically have built-in controls for Apple TV. You can download an app like ASmart Remote IR.

On the newer iPhone models, you’ll notice a strange black circle on the back. It’s called a Lidar scanner, and it’s designed to measure distances. On the iPhone is an app called Measure. In the Measure app, your camera can accurately create a 3D map of the space in front of you and can measure the length and width of the object in front of it.
