Ventura OS offers new features

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Jul 15, 2022

Here are some new features coming in the new Mac OS called Ventura.

Live Captions will display text in videos and while listening to audio. To activate this, you will need to go to Settings, Accessibility, Live Captions. And you can turn it on for Facebook and see the text of what other people are saying.

Now you’ll get the Clock App like on the iPhone, where you can set a timer or stopwatch and change the sound on it.

In Spotlight Search, which is the magnifying glass icon on the top right, you can click on a file or photo, then press the Space Bar to open it and view the contents.

Here is a new feature in Pages that can come in handy. It’s called Mail Merge. This allows you to use your contact list and your printer to print out envelopes or letters with titles. It’s pretty much explanatory, so I won’t go into details explaining how to use all the whistles and bells.

And get this: if you send your boss a text telling him where to get off, then receive an e-mail five minutes later from him saying you’re getting a raise, don’t freak out. With the new Ventura, you have 15 minutes to delete the text you sent him.

If you need to block someone who keeps sending you texts, just right-click on the circle at the top, then Information and choose block this caller.

As I’m getting older, I have times that I can’t hear what the other person is saying. Not wanting to spend $2,000 on hearing aids, there is another option. Apple EarPods can act as a hearing aid, and believe it or not, they’re pretty good. The feature is called Live Listen, and when turned on, you’ll be able to hear your mother-in-law trashing you behind your back!

You’ll be surprised how many tabs you accumulated in Safari. So if you want to see and delete them on your iPhone, click on Settings, Safari, and in the Tabs section, tap close tabs. You can choose to delete them by day, week or after one month.

Here is a trick to fast-charge your iPhone. Just open up Settings, click on Airplane Mode and plug your phone in.

If you like Widgets on your iPhone, you’ll now be able to place them on your lock screen. That means you’ll see them before you type in your pass code that brings up the screen with all your apps on.

So, you could get a weather update instantly and get updates on sports games.
