Long-press your icons to explore options
In this issue, I’ll show you some hidden button tricks that you might find useful. Actually these aren’t buttons — I’m talking about icons on the iPhone.
When you long-press down on an icon, it will open up a menu allowing you to make choices. Let’s start with the Camera icon. Go ahead and long- press down on it until you see a menu with “Take Selfie,” “Record Video,” “Take Portrait,” “Edit Home Screen” and “Remove App.” Don’t use the last two!
So, let’s say you want to take a fast video. First of all, you would have to find the Camera icon, click on it, scroll over to Video and press the red button. That takes a long time to do that, but if you just long-pressed the Camera icon and chose Record Video, you could save yourself the trouble of clicking a bunch of times.
Here is another fast one: press down on the Contact icon and choose Create New Contact. The same with the Message App, by long-pressing down and choosing New Message.
Now try the Notes App. I like this one because you can press on “New Photo” and it takes you to your Camera instantly. Pressing on the white button, it takes a photo and places it in Notes for you. Better yet, the Scan function lets you scan a document and places it in Notes.
The Maps App lets you choose “Mark My Location,” so you can easily find your car after shopping. Clicking on the “…” three dots lets you share the location, so someone else can find you.
If you’re lazy like me, there is a simpler way to text. Let Siri do it for you. Go ahead and say, “Hey Siri, send Elwood a text.” Siri will respond and say, “What do you want to say to Elwood?” Well, don’t just sit there — respond! And guess what? You can tell Siri to send an e-mail to Elwood, too.
A new Microsoft Scam Virus is out, so be careful if you get a screen popping up to call the Microsoft phone number. Turn off your computer immediately and restart it. If the same screen pops up, turn it off and give me a call.
Finally, I have a good one for you if you forgot where you were yesterday. The iPhone has a secret tracking map that displays the places you visited. To see this cool feature, click on Settings, Privacy, select Location Services, then tap on System Services. Scroll down to Significant Locations. You’ll be asked to type in your password, and then after all that, you’ll see a list of locations you last visited. The Dirty Monkey bar the last three nights?
