Have Siri take and send screen shots

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Jan 28, 2022

Boy do I have a good one for you. Remember I told you what Siri can do when you want to read a book or news article? Just say, “Hey Siri, Speak Screen.”

Well, here is another one you’re going to love.

Let’s say you’re looking for a cheap used flyswatter for your mother-in-law and found one on eBay for 25 cents. Now you want to send her a picture of it along with the description of where she can buy it. So while you’re looking at the web page using your iPhone, say: “Hey Siri, take a screen shot.” A small picture appears on the lower left corner. Quickly say, “Hey Siri, send photo to Ethel.”

Within minutes, she should get the picture in her text. Please do not send me her response.

If you feel exceptionally good that day, you could open up Facetime, give her a call, click on the SharePlay button at the right top of the screen and click on Share My Screen. Now open up the same page with the flyswatter on it, and she’ll be able to see the page.

You could even have music in the background, like my favorite “19th Nervous Breakdown.” Just smile and hang up quickly.

But if she doesn’t have FaceTime and uses an Android phone, you could open up FaceTime and click on Create Link at the top of the page. When Share pops up, send her the link via text or e-mail. When she taps on the link, you’ll be looking at her wonderful, pretty face.

I had a chance to use Live Text when I bought a web camera from China. The instructions were in Chinese, but all I had to do was take a photo of the instructions then press on a white circle icon on the lower right corner which then turned yellow. A menu now appears above the photo showing Copy, Select All, Lookup and a white arrow. Click on the white arrow and choose “Translate.” Whammy — it’s now all in English.

Here is something that Google Maps doesn’t have. Let’s say you want to take a stroll through Happy Valley and enjoy all the sites. Open Maps and type in Happy Valley. Select walking and click on Go. Now you’ll have a walking tour of the one beautiful street that Happy Valley has to offer. Don’t get lost.
