Pin your car to find it in a huge lot

Here are some cool tricks using Google search.

Let’s say you’re looking for some wart removal pills at Longs Drug Store. On your iPhone or MacBook, open up Google, and in the search bar type in: “Wart Removal site:longs.com.”

Everyone eventually travels to a foreign country or visits one on the Internet. Well, thanks to Apple, now you can translate what you’re reading and even respond in writing, or listen to it and respond back to them in their language. The new Monterey for the Macs allows you to select text on mostly Apple apps like Safari and then copy or translate it.

Let’s say you want to read a news article on Cuban cigars, but it’s in Spanish. No problema. With your mouse, just hold down the left button, move it over the text, and it will highlight it in blue. Now right-click your mouse and select Translate. The text is now in English, and if you click on the small circle icon to the right, it will speak the text. On the bottom is “Copy Translation,” where you can copy it onto a note or e-mail. If you have a Pages Doc opened, copy and paste it there. Now just select it, then right-click on it. At the bottom line a message pops up where you can choose Replace with Translation. Whammo! The Cuban text is now written out in English.

But get ready for the best! Safari already has a translator feature built in. Open up a Spanish webpage, and at the top of Safari are three … dots. Click on it and choose “Translate web page.”

Okay, you’re at a French Restaurant, the menu is in French, and you don’t speak or read French. Don’t leave, because all you have to do is take a photo of the menu. Open up the photo and with your mouse select it, right- click and choose Translate. Bon appétit!

Here is good one. Say, “Hey Siri, save my parking spot.” Your car is pinned. Now open up the Maps app. It will show you the location of your car. DUH… right in front of the store.

In the Message App on your iPhone, you can quickly text someone your address. Just type in “I’m at” and hit the space bar. At the bottom is “Current Location.” Click on it, and a map shows up with your current location on it. Hit the up blue arrow key to send it out.

Another useful one is in the Reminder App. There you can tap the blue circle with the “I” in it, and a menu pops up allowing you to set a Date, Time, Repeat and Location. Great for reminding yourself when your mother-in-law is arriving at the Kahului Airport. Try it out. It can be very useful for also reminding yourself of a doctors appointment or dinner with your boss.
