Need to paste a photo in a document?

By BY GEORGE GORDON/Computer Guru - | Jul 30, 2021

People always ask me how to move or copy and paste a photo or document to another place on their hard drive. Today, I’m going to show you how to do that on your Apple laptop.

Let’s click on the Finder Window on the lower lefthand side of the Dock. Once its opened, click on File at the top right and choose “New Finder Window.” Now you have two Finder windows opened. You can click and hold your mouse on the top of any of the finder windows and slide or drag it over so they are side by side.

Here comes the fun part. Since you placed both windows side by side, let’s click on the Document folder on the lefthand window and click and hold your mouse on a document. Now just drag it over to the window on the righthand side and release your finger.

Guess what? You just copied a file to another location on your hard drive. You could have placed it into any folder of your choice. So, you’re thinking BIG DEAL. But the best is yet to come.

You can also copy a photo from the photo app into your e-mail. First open up your e-mail app and choose a person that you want to send a photo to. Open up Photos, choose a photo by clicking on it, drag it over the e-mail page then release your finger. Whammo — your photo now appears in your e-mail.

Having both windows opened at the same time gives you the option to move files around the hard drive. If you don’t want to drag and drop using your mouse, there are keyboard shortcuts that you can use. Choose a photo with your mouse and press Control+ C at the same time — that will copy the photo. Place your mouse where you want to paste the photo, then click and press Control+V. That will paste it.

Another way is to click on the photo you want to copy, choose Edit at top of the page, then Copy. Click your mouse on the page you want to paste it, then choose Edit at the top, then Paste. Here is a useful trick that helps you locate a photo in the photo library on your iPhone. Choose a photo and with your finger, slide up and in the area there is “Add a Caption.” Put in a name for your dog and click on Done. Close Photos and reopen it. At the top is the “Search” where you can type in the name of the dog and it instantly displays it.

Get ready for another good one. Say, “Hey Siri, show me pictures of my dogs.” Another cool feature that Siri can do is to turn off your alarm. If you set your alarm to get up at 7 a.m. and try and find your iPhone to turn it off, you can save time by just asking Siri to do it — “Hey Siri, turn off my alarm.”

If you’re trying to print a page from a website that you found out has three more pages of information in it, you can do it. Open up the site that has the three pages on it and take a screen shot by pressing the right side of the iPhone’s button and the top left side of the iPhone at the same time. You should hear a click that tells you just took a photo or screen shot.

Instantly, a small picture of it appears, so quickly tap on it — it explodes to full size. At the top right is “Full Page,” so click on it. Click on “Done “and then “Save PDF to file.” Now you can choose where to save it (in either Documents or iCloud Drive) and later view or print it out.

But where do you find documents and files on the iPhone? They are found in the Apple Apps icon folder. Open it up, click on Files and find the PDF file of the website you took a screen shot of. At the bottom left is the share icon that looks like a box with an up arrow in it. Click on it and choose Print.
