Ever wonder what the Spyglass icon does?
I have a few choice tips you might want to try out in this issue. This first trick only works in Text Edit, E-mail or Pages on your Mac.
Let’s say you’re re-writing your 17th resume and can’t remember how to spell “TERMINATED,” partly because you flunked first grade two times. Well, had you known this trick, you could have skipped to the third grade!
So, here’s how the trick works. Just start off by typing “TER,” then pressing the F5 key or the FN and F5 keys. This will bring up a list with the right spelling.
Ever wonder what that Spyglass icon located in the upper right corner does? Well, don’t just stare at it click on it!!! Spotlight Search shows up, allowing you to type in something. So, what’s the big deal? Well, Smarty, let’s type in something to see how it works. Start off by typing “2+2*3.” Did you get 8? If not, you need to go back to the first grade. Ready for another hard one? Let’s try seven feet – you’ll instantly get 2.13 meters. Looking on the right side gives you more options in yards and inches.
Great… you want to see more? Let’s try 760 dollars; a menu appears on the right with World Currencies, showing that now you’ll be able to travel to Pakistan.
You threw another temper tantrum and tossed the 17th resume in the lower dock Trash Can. Now, all of a sudden, you see a new job offer pop up! Calm down!!! To retrieve it back, just click on the Trash Icon, and when it opens up, find the file, right-click on it and then choose “Put Back.” Now you can apply for that grocery bagging job at Happy Valley Grocery.
Want your computer telling you what time it is? No? Then go buy an Apple Watch or simply go to System Preferences, Date and Time, and click on Clock. Choose “Announce the Time” and choose one hour, half hour or Customize the Voice.
If you need to type in an apostrophe over the letter E for instance, just press on the E key – a list appears with a number of options. Just choose a number. Emojis can be typed in by pressing the Control and Command keys down at the same time.
Here is a good one for you lazy people. Holding down the Option key and pressing the Delete key will delete one word at a time. Holding down the Command key plus the Delete key will delete the whole line.
Apple has long offered a feature called Find My iPhone, which can help you track and retrieve a lost device remotely, provided your missing handset is connected to the Internet. If your device is not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, the phone can emit Bluetooth signals that may be detected by other iPhones in the vicinity, which can then relay the lost device’s location.
iOS 13 makes it much simpler to dress up and format your e-mail messages. Start composing a message and select some Text. A new Format bar appears above the Keyboard, letting you choose Bold, Italicize, Underline text or add a Strike-through. Available controls also let you change fonts, colors and text size. And you can easily add photos, drawings or attachments.
The safest and most effective way to clean your glass screen is with a microfiber cloth. If the screen is in desperate need of cleaning, use distilled water to dampen the microfiber cloth and then wipe down your screen. Avoid squirting the water directly on the screen. This method can be used on the back and sides of your phone, too.
Here is trick people don’t know about when using the Photos app on the iPhone that will let you search for certain items. In the search box in Photos, just type in “Dogs” – a bunch of dog photos show up. Or just type in the letter D, and a list of items using the letter “D” shows up.
Or, you could ask Siri to “show me all the photos of my dogs.” You can even search for locations like “all my Lahaina photos.”
