New stuff for 2015
With the new year in full swing, we will see some new and exciting hardware and apps hitting the market. So, let’s begin…
The Narrative Clip is a tiny clip-on camera designed to take a photo every 30 seconds and is hands-free. This camera is the size of a matchbook cover with a clip that attaches to your shirt. If you’re in a situation where you need to video a confrontation with a tenant not paying rent, this is the perfect camera.
The new iSmartAlarm system has a new camera called the iCamera KEEP that controls all the electrical outlets in your house and a new smoke alarm system. There is no subscription or recurring charges. Buy the gear, add more devices if you want them, and you’re done.
So, you bought a Wi-Fi-only iPad or iPad Mini, and now you’re regretting the fact that you can’t work or play while away from Wi-Fi networks. Well, AT&T today announced the new Modio Smartcase, which is essentially an iPad case with a built-in 4G LTE hotspot. The case will eventually be available for all models of the iPad Air and iPad Mini. It has some other perks in addition to the 4G LTE connection. There’s a built-in 4,600mAh battery pack to keep the device going for up to ten hours and a microSD card slot that can be used to offload up to 32 GB of files off of your iPad. The AT&T Modio Data application will let you do the file transfers, as well as monitor your data usage and connection.
How would you like to be able to have your iPhone charge up automatically whenever you’re within range of a special wireless transmitter? That’s the premise behind the Energous Corporation WattUp product. WattUp is Bluetooth Wi-Fi. Up to 12 devices can be charged. No more cables; just walk into your room and it begins charging.
If you forget your password at the startup screen, here is a workaround solution. Go into the control panel to Users Accounts and create a dummy user. Then, when starting up, you can log on to it and still be able to see your original files.
The most recent addition to the Apple Pay mix is Walt Disney World.
Visage Lab has the best photo retouch and makeup app. You can remake your “selfies” and photos to look ten years younger. Joan Rivers used it every day.
Disk Inspector is a Mac OS X utility that can keep track of what, where and how large files are stored. It’s great when you want to find a huge video file that you wanted to delete.
To see a photo of your friend when they call or e-mail, go to settings, tap Facebook or Twitter, then tap Update Contacts.
The iPhone user guide is a free download from the iBooks store!
