Public welcome to comment on West Maui transit hub
LAHAINA – I would like to invite members of the public to an upcoming informal meeting to talk about the potential relocation of the West Maui transit hub from its current location at The Wharf Cinema Center on Luakini Street. The meeting is scheduled for Jan. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center.
There are currently five transit hub relocation prospects to consider: a location adjoining Lahaina Harbor, the parking lot across from King Kamehameha III Elementary School, the parking lot across from 505 Front Street, a property near the former Pioneer Mill, and a site near the Lahaina Aquatic Center.
Although these five sites have been selected for discussion, other suggestions will be accepted from attendees. This meeting will be a chance for everyone to learn more about the locations being considered, as well as to vote for your preference, submit questions and to testify.
Director Jo Anne Johnson-Winer, Department of Transportation; Director William Spence, Planning Department; Executive Assistant Zeke Kalua, Office of the Mayor; Deputy Director Rowena Dagdag-Andaya, Department of Public Works; a representative from the Department of Police; along with myself, will be in attendance to listen and to gather public input.
Your mana’o is very valuable in this decision-making process. Please take the time to stop by and share your views.
Please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions or need further information at 270-5504, or by e-mail at elle.cochran@mauicounty.us.
