Lahaina Intermediate to host Achieve3000 Parent Night
LAHAINA — Aloha, everyone. Welcome back to school! The staff at Lahaina Intermediate School dedicate our energy and time to ensure that your children make academic gains and develop appropriate social skills.
We continue to support our students’ emotional “roller coaster” ride during their adolescent years in the middle level. They will learn coping skills and how to behave appropriately when faced with unfamiliar social challenges.
Bullying, cyber-bullying and other offensive behaviors can cause a child’s self-esteem to become very fragile. Aware of how these behaviors affect our students, Lahaina Intermediate has a safe school program called “We Don’t Do That Here.”
High expectations of our students continue to be our priority. The Renaissance Program continues to “Strive For Excellence” by providing incentives as we guide our students toward self-awareness, community awareness and good citizenship.
The School Community Council has received nominations for our parent and community representatives. Ballots are available on the front counter in the office. If you would like to vote, please come in and cast your ballot. The deadline to vote is Aug. 31, 2011.
School faculty who will not be returning to LIS this school year are Drew Benson, SPED; Mary Joy Cabading, ELL; Aida Cabatic, ELL; Pamela Jayne, Grade 8 Social Studies; Robert Twitchell, Grade 8 Math; and Jessica Valerio, SPED. We wish them a heartfelt farewell and best wishes in their new positions and endeavors!
Joining us this year are Jacob Baum, Grade 8 Social Studies (previously Grade 7-8 High Risk Study Skills); Jayme Carlos, High Risk Study Skills; Alison Howland, SPED; Deborah Kramer, Grade 8 Math; Alan Kravetz, ELL; Sequoia Rudolph, SPED; and Heather Sanders, who has replaced newly hired Stanley Poytress, ELL.
I would like to acknowledge Lani Chadli, ELL EA; Diosa Hussey, SPED; and Carole Schmidt, SPED, who joined us during the last school year after the year began.
A reminder to all parents/guardians: Lahaina Intermediate School’s website is on edline.net. You should have received your user name and pass code during the first week of school. Up-to-date information is posted as it becomes available throughout the school year. We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with our website and be abreast of all upcoming events.
On Aug. 24, we will host another Achieve3000 Parent Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the school cafe dining room. Achieve3000 is an online reading program accessible 24/7.
We encourage our parents/guardians to continue your child’s reading support during weekends, holidays and school breaks. You are all invited to learn about the program and actively participate in your child’s education. See you there.
Again, welcome back to school. IMUA!
