Track LIS students’ progress online through edline.net

By Staff | Apr 28, 2011

LAHAINA — We are past mid-quarter. Parents, have you been checking your child’s edline.net account?

Our teachers have been receiving support, so they are able to update your child’s accounts and you are able to monitor any missing assignments. Please continue to monitor your child’s planner, too. If a teacher isn’t able to update, he or she will drop you a note in your child’s planner.

LIS has completed our second round of HSA testing in reading and in math. Our students have the opportunity to try to meet proficiency three times within this school year. Our English and math teachers opted to have the HSA administered toward the middle of the school year and into the second semester, so the bulk of the standards benchmarks are covered prior to the HSA.

We are trying different strategies to help our students meet proficiency. As in all new systems, we will have to trust the strategies we have in place and move forward as we learn new ways to support our students as they take the state’s assessment, measuring the standards benchmarks they are being taught in their classes. The bottom line is: did our students learn?

In the month of May, LIS will be hosting an Achieve3000 parent workshop. This is the online reading program called KidsBiz. It is a 24/7 web-based reading program that can improve your child’s reading comprehension. The accessibility to this program is active throughout the summer months. It is important that parents take an active role with available educational resources while their children are on summer break. It’s free! Practice leads to improvement. A flyer will be coming out shortly. We will also forward a voice message to the phone numbers you have provided us. Heads up!

As always, if you need to contact your child’s teacher or counselor, please e-mail us through edline.net or call us at 662-3965. We are here to support you and your child. IMUA!
