New school year under way at Lahaina Intermediate

By Staff | Aug 5, 2010

LAHAINA — Aloha, everyone! Welcome to the new school year, 2010-11. We continue to be committed to your child’s success at Lahaina Intermediate School.

Our staff dedicates their energy and time to ensure that your child makes academic gains as well as develop appropriate social skills. We will continue to support our students’ emotional “roller coaster” ride during their adolescent years in the middle level. They will learn coping skills and to behave appropriately when faced with unfamiliar social challenges.

HSA scores have been received. They will be shared with you and the public at a later date. The Hawaii Department of Education has used the AIR test tool, so we will be able to analyze the results and improve teaching strategies to benefit all students.

Hint: LIS has improved significantly in reading and math this year!

School faculty members who have moved on to other schools or other professional endeavors are: Jayme Carlos, Chorus; Lisa Charette-Aquino, Student Services Coordinator; Matthew Gill, Grade 8 Social Studies; Jeremy Seamster, Grade 6 Math; Kimberly Walters, Grade 8 Math; Clayton Walters, ELL Paraprofessional; Robin White, SPED; Veronica Young, High-Risk Study Skills. We wish them a heartfelt farewell and best wishes in their new positions and endeavors.

Jacqueline Swenson, librarian, retired in February 2010, and Carole Leslie, SPED, just retired at the end of July of this year.

Joining us this year are: Kathleen Dimino, ACE Vice-Principal Trainee; Jacob Baum, High-Risk Study Skills; Anthony Bucaneg, ELL Paraprofessional; Beth Fobbe-Wills, Chorus; Pamela Jayne, Grade 8 Social Studies; Deborah Matteson, SPED; Debra Mau, Grade 6 Math; Roger Pennington, SPED; John Reardon, Student Services Coordinator; and Robert Twitchell, Grade 8 Math.
