LAHAINA — Hey there, parents! School is right around the corner. On behalf of the Lahaina Intermediate School PTSA, I am calling out to you with a great opportunity.

Lahaina Intermediate School’s PTSA wants you. Yes, they do. The PTSA is looking for you to come forward and be an active member on our PTSA board.  The more board members, the more we can share specific responsibilities. Plus, not to mention, it is fun.

What a wonderful way to be involved your child’s world. Parent involvement is key, especially at the middle school level. Your child will be looking for his/her own identity. Your child will want more freedom to be with peers. Your involvement on our PTSA board will provide you with a window into your child’s life at school.  You will be able to learn more about LIS, too.

Shy? Bring a friend. You don’t need to be a parent to be part of the PTSA. If you are interested, or if you would like more information, please call Liz Sager at 281-5493. Come on down!

Mark your calendars. July 14 is S.U.R.F. Night at LIS from 4 to 8 p.m. in the school cafe. What does S.U.R.F. mean? This is a convenient time for you to pick up your child’s SCHEDULE, purchase UNIFORMS, REGISTER (if your child will be a brand new student) and pay for school/student FEES. The school is changing the time for school preparation to meet your needs. If the evening set up is successful, we will continue to have S.U.R.F. Nights every year hereafter.

Incoming sixth grade Parent Orientation Night is scheduled for July 28. Basic information/expectations will be shared; questions and answers will follow. Start time is 5:30 p.m.

The 2010-11 school calendar is finally out. The students’ first day is Aug. 2. There are still furlough days for teachers, staff and administrators, but they will not affect instructional days. Furlough days will be scheduled during breaks when students are not in school.

I hope you are all enjoying quality time together as a family. Be safe. Join the PTSA. IMUA!
